Depression - Pick Yourself Up!

n

Everybody feels depressed at certain times of their lives, and I am going to tell you what I do when I feel depressed. I believe it's a helpful tool that has helped me, and hopefully it can help you as well.

The first thing that I do is imagine a time when I was really happy. I focus on how I felt, how I breathed, what I was thinking at that time, my posture, and my mindset. Then, you should close your eyes and imagine that you are back at that time. Try your best to emulate all of these great sensations when you felt really happy. You can be certain that by emulating your feelings from that time, you will start to get a sliver of happiness as well.

I think of the time when I learned to surf in Hawaii. At Diamon Head, the waves can be pretty strong, and it takes a strong swimmer and persistence to surf well. Luckily, after trying over and over again, I was able to surf on the waves! It was a great feeling, and I remember how happy I was. I think back to this moment whenever I feel sad or depressed. The key is to remember your happy moments and then imagine that you feel that way in the present.

Another thing that you can do is to reward yourself. Do something that will make you happy as long as it is not destructive. Smoking, drinking, and doing drugs will do more harm that good in the long run.
